Lesson for Wednesday, July 26th
So basically what we talked about was trust.
To start the night off, we did the trust fall. It was a challenge, but we did it.
Then we read 1 kings 17:7-24. It is a story about how Elijah tested a women(mind you this was during the famine) by asking her to bring him a glass of water and a loaf of bread.
She tells him that she only had enough stuff to make her and her son thier last meal.
Elijah told her that her supply would not run out until the rains came.
She looks at him like he is crazy, but goes and does as he said. From that point on she trusted him just a little bit.
Later on her son becomes ill and dies. Elijah takes him to the upper room and prayes fervently to God, asking him to heal her son. God answers his prayer and through that, the women trust grew in Elijah and in God.
We talked about how the women trusted Elijah and what her actions were.
We also talked about how we could trust God in our own lives, 24/7.
I hope that this all makes sense. If it doesn't, just ask me questions.

You have to understand it isn't one person catching you within this scenario. It is the entire youth group catching you. Their combined strength can handle it. Therein lies the point. We are stronger as a group and trust is given in increments and given more freely once the lack of trust wall is overcome. They caught me.
At the end of it all this is a physical representation only of what it is like to trust someone and to place your trust in them. There is an initial fear that needs to be overcome. Once you see that you can trust the group of people to catch you, you would be willing (typically) to do it again. Kind of like the trust/love account I have talked about before. We automatically invest a little bit into each when you first meet someone. If the trust is abused then the account goes into a negative balance. If the trust is honored then more trust is built up in the account and sometimes more quickly than before. No there will be some people who would not be able to catch me physically (6' 3", 265 lbs). That isn't the point. It represents the process of trust and that is a tougher process sometimes than just trusting someone to physically catch you.

Thanks, I'm glad that I could pull it off.
Like what I talked about, I needed to trust God that I could do it and be alive at the end. :)

No no no!! I wasn't reprimanding whatsoever! I get a little excited when talking about trust/relationships and all that, but by no means was I intending on directing it at you as if you had done something wrong. I tend to over explain stuff sometimes (just ask Jen) when I am excited about a topic or have strong (read: not upset, just something I really believe in) feelings about.
