Sunday Lesson 09/17/06 (Jessica Garvin)
What is our purpose in life? What is God’s purpose for our life? The person who has inspired me to live life to its fullest purpose is Rachel Scott. Rachael Scott was one of the 13 people who were shot at the Columbine High School shooting in April 1999. Rachel was the kind of girl who loved everyone no matter what. It didn’t matter what they looked liked, who they hung out with or what they talked like. Rachel went out of her way to show kindness to others in school. You may be wondering why I am telling you about a girl who died over 6 years ago. The reason is because God has a different plan for all of us!
She wrote in an essay a month before the shootings, “I have this theory that if one person can go out of their way to show compassion then it will start a chain reaction of the same.” Darrell Scott came to Parkrose High School in October of 2005 and left us with these six challenges. They are:
1.Eliminate Prejudice, -look for the best in others
2.Keep a journal for 30 days, then on the 30th day go back and read what you wrote on the first day see if you can remember what/why you wrote it.
3.Smile at someone when you are walking down the hall at school, you never know how a smile can make a difference.
4.Choose your influences carefully – movies, TV shows, music can make a difference
5.Choose your words carefully because they can be very powerful
6.Don’t be too cool or too tough to let someone know you care.
From this and being committed to live my life for God, I have come to think that our purpose in life is this…
-Walk with God and know his heart
-Be a blessing to others
-Have a life of grace and compassion
-Know the beauty of God’s holiness; and have a life of never-ending love and joy
-Have the courage to live a life for Christ- no matter what they circumstances might be

Dewah, I am glad you enjoyed my lesson... I personally like #6 a lot too. I am glad that you can go on and on about it. It's good bacause it gives me an idea of how you guys interpreted it! Thanks Riona! Give Bryan the credit though, he is the one that posted for me since we have dial up internet connection and I can't stay on very long and to recap my lesson would have taken me forever cause I would have wanted to make it really long and every thing! THANKS BRYAN!!! Oh and by the way... Kimee are you back from Ireland??? If so WELCOME BACK! We missed you.
Jess
PS
Deborah and anyone else that would like to go more in depth with the lesson from Sunday let me know and I would be willing to talk to you. I am reading another book that is about the 6 challenges. If any of you would like to borrow the book let me know and I can bring it. I would prefer that you e-mail me. It is easier.

Randy's lesson was amazing at the retreat and it was so encouraging and incredible to hear all about Rachel since I missed Jessica's original lesson about her. Its amazing how God can take a tragedy and turn it around to use for astonishing good.
